If you haven’t yet started learning about bidding, you may not be familiar with the concept of a ‘contract’ such as 4. These appear in many of the videos.

This just refers to the number of tricks that declarer must make if they are to score points, and their chosen trump suit (or no-trumps if it’s, for example,

3NT). You always add 6 to the number in the contract to get the number of tricks needed. So if the contract is 2♠ you must make 8 tricks with spades as trumps. In 4, you must make 10 tricks with hearts as trumps and so on. It’s just like when you play minibridge, you choose to play in part score (where you must make 7 tricks) or game, where you must make 9 tricks in NT (the same as a contract of 3NT), 10 with a major suit as trumps (the same as a contract of 4 or 4♠) or 11 with a minor suit as trumps (the same as a contract os 5♣ or 5). Have fun.
